When Talcum Powder Causes Asbestos-Related Cancer
Baby powder and similar personal care products containing talc are supposed to be soothing, not cause terrible harm. Increasingly, however, evidence shows how companies such as Johnson & Johnson have put people at risk of asbestos-related disease from using these products.

Did You Or Someone In Your Family Get Cancer From Using Talcum Powder?
Personal hygiene products such as Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder or Shower to Shower are made from talc, not asbestos. But talc and asbestos have similar chemical composition, they are mined similarly and in close proximity, and asbestos may be contained within the talc.
Increasingly, scientists have found evidence J & J either knew or should have known some of its talcum powder products were dangerous. More specifically, the company failed to investigate or provide warnings to the public of products contaminated with asbestos.
Women have filed over 6,000 cases against J & J, contending they developed ovarian cancer from using talcum powder products such as Shower to Shower or Baby Powder. Many of these cases are still pending, but in several cases juries have issued multi-million-dollar verdicts in favor of injured women.
Often, attorneys for the women have successfully shown the cause of cancer was talc traveling to the ovaries through the fallopian tubes. But plaintiffs have also prevailed in several key cases by showing their cancer was caused by asbestos contained within the talc itself.
Talcum powder products are connected not only to ovarian cancer, but to peritoneal mesothelioma, pleural mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. These diseases can strike men as well as women and are often deadly.
